Gstaad, Switzerland ( - Top-seeded and defending champion Mikhail Youzhny and second-seeded former titlist Marcel Granollers failed to reach the semifinals at the Swiss Open tennis event.

In a rematch of last year's final in Gstaad, seventh-seeded Dutchman Robin Haase exacted some revenge by upending the Russian veteran Youzhny 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in just under two hours on the red clay at Roy Emerson Arena.

"Until 5-2 in the third set, I felt good," said Haase. "But two net cord winners, one unbelievable backhand smash from him changed things. At 5-4, 40-0, you think it is done. I double faulted and lost my rhythm. I knew I could beat him. Compared to last year's match, it was very good."

The 2011 champion Granollers, meanwhile, succumbed to unseeded fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar 7-5, 6-3. Andujar's semifinal opponent on Saturday will be fourth-seeded compatriot Fernando Verdasco, who saw double duty on Day 5.

The 2011 Gstaad runner-up Verdasco opened his day by holding off German Jan- Lennard Struff 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in a rain-suspended second-round affair from Thursday, and capped his Friday with a 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 6-1 quarterfinal victory over Serbian wild card Viktor Troicki, who rejoined the ATP Tour this week after serving a one-year doping ban.

The other semi will pit the 2013 runner-up Haase against Argentine Juan Monaco, who handled two-time Gstaad champion Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 to reach his first semifinal in 12 months.

The 2014 Swiss Open champ will earn $105,000.
