Q: A few questions: Brian Flinn - does he sit with the team in the dugout, can he practice with them, does he lose a year of eligibility (gueesing he can't redshirt and will only have 2 years left?) Saw your update on where some of the WSU recruits are going, any updates on Cyphers and the Penn St transfer? Didn't see Loopers name in the Ks in the Majors section today - is he with a team, maybe hurt right now?
Answered 04/26/10 11:17:16 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Flynn practices and is in the dugout at home games. He can apply for a redshirt season should he remain at WSU that long. Braden Looper is not with a team. My understanding is he is waiting on calls.Submitted by william from wichita
Q: Any comment on this Kenny issue? Do you think this is another Maurice Evans situation?
Answered 04/20/10 15:49:59 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Not at all. Kenny wasn't going to play much here, certainly not a point guard. WSU made that clear by signing a junior college point. Kenny needs to become a better shooter, first and foremost, to play at this level.Submitted by dan from wichita
Q: think we had a true frosh last fall in baseball, michah green or something like that? is he still on the team? thought i heard he might be injured, but don't remember even seeing him on the bench..... he looked very athletic.
Answered 04/15/10 09:00:34 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Micah Green is redshirting.Submitted by Bob Pope from Wichita, Kansas
Q: AD Terry Don Phillips of Clemson announced Tuesda, 13 April that Brownell from Wright has been hired as the new men's Basketball coach. I see where the Sporting News has Wichita State preseason #25
Answered 04/14/10 15:28:41 by Paul Suellentrop
A: You got it. Preseason Top 25 is a little much for me after losing in the first round of the NIT at home, but it's not totally crazy.Submitted by Chris W. from Wichita, KS
Q: The silence out of WSU is deafening. Has anyone within the media attempted to contact the athletic department to see if they have been asked permission to interview Marshall?
Answered 04/10/10 12:29:34 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Athletic director Eric Sexton declined to comment. We haven't proceeded with the story because there doesn't seem to be anything to indicate Marshall is anything more, at this point, than one of many names thrown out as a potential candidate. That could change. A Rivals site ran a list of five people who have interviewed and four other "confirmed" candidates, none of whom are Gregg Marshall. We'll see where it goes.Submitted by joe from wichita, kansas
Q: Is Gregg a legitimate candidate for the now open Clemson job?
Answered 04/06/10 18:19:05 by Paul Suellentrop
A: We'll see. I'm sure his name will be brought up. Oliver Purnell leaving for DePaul is not a great endorsement of the Clemson job. It's in the ACC. It's in South Carolina. It has some positives.Submitted by Shockermaniac from Wichita, KS
Q: Uh oh....Purnell leaves Clemson for DePaul! That HAS to be attractive to Marshall. I'm not one to really get worked up over these coaching moves. But that has to be almost the PERFECT situation for Marshall if Clemson is interested. Of course, he does have it pretty good here in Wichita though. That has to mean SOMETHING...right?

Q: what do you think of the new point guard?
Answered 04/05/10 14:27:11 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Sounds like a perfect fit. WSU should be solid there between Demetric and Joe Ragland.Submitted by jim from wichita
Q: Any thoughts as to when the public might know which, if any, of the Shox basketball players might be leaving the program for whatever reason?
Answered 03/31/10 11:44:09 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Sometime this spring. Sometime it leaks out on Facebook. Sometimes the coach and player want to wait until a new school is locked up. It's different for everybody, depending on the situation.Submitted by will from Wichita
Q: First of all I would like to thank you for what you do. What did you think of the KU VS UNI game? In a sense, I think it was indicative of the quality of basket in the MVC. However, I have read a lot of post game reviews and most of them do not credit UNI, but blame the loss a poor performance by KU: They did not bring their A game or some other similar excuses. Since UNI loses 6 players after this season, does that put the shox on top?
Answered 03/23/10 10:33:05 by Paul Suellentrop
A: UNI did what it does and KU wasn't ready to handle it. Surprising loss, but you've got to give the Panthers credit for being tough and experienced and making their shots. WSU should be the preseason favorite in the MVC. My opinion on UNI changed over the past month after seeing how well its bench played. UNI won't be the favorite, but it will be in the top three or four. Eglseder will be a huge loss. It will be tough to replace his size, much the way WSU missed Paul Miller.Submitted by the Waco Kid from Hollywood, CA.
Q: Sully: THANKS for a great job covering Shox b-ball this year. Its also nice to see some other sports,..mainly Shox volleyball also getting some well deserved publicity. Wanted to see what your opinion was on the 3 biggest development surprises for b-ball this year, the 3 biggest disappointments, and 3 areas that need improvement. Last, can you comment on getting stronger scheduling next year,..I know its not easy to do, but do you think the staff is heading the right direction so we don't see a SC-Upstate, anymore? Cant we get Rice, a Fresno State, or maybe with Coopers ties, get Auburn to play us? Thanks again.
Answered 03/22/10 14:16:44 by Paul Suellentrop
A: I can't come up with three big surprises. WSU exceeded most expectations. Getting to 17-3 was unexpected. But I don't think WSU didn't anything totally unexpected this season. I think the biggest disappointments can be summed up in not making the NCAA Tournament. The Shockers had a very good season, but also missed an opportunity to make it a great season. WSU needs to get a little better in several areas - athletic ability, experience and scoring. Check out next season's schedule. It is much stronger. I don't get some of the second-guessing of this season's schedule. WSU was 11-20 and 17-17 the previous two seasons and picked fifth in the MVC.Submitted by Dave from Orlando, FL
Q: Paul, obviously the weak non-conference schedule is an issue. Can you update us on what next year's schedule has in the works? Thanks.
Answered 03/22/10 11:47:41 by Paul Suellentrop
A: WSU plays in the Maui Invitational with a very tough field - Kentucky, UConn, Michigan State, Washington, OU, Virginia, Chaminade. Tulsa in Wichita. At San Diego State. LSU, probably in Shreveport. Those are the highlights.Submitted by WSU guy from ICT

Q: Where is the coverage of WSU Softball?
Answered 03/16/10 15:26:50 by Paul Suellentrop
A: WSU softball, unfortunately, is going to have to wait until basketball is over before I can pay some attention to it. I wish things were different, but time is limited.Submitted by Hank W. from Wichita, KS.
Q: Paul, do you know if they plan to red-shirt Orupke next year, or are they going to bring him in to play right away? It seems with Stutz improving there might be a glut of big men on the active roster next year. Hmm, "glut of big men"; who would have thought?
Answered 03/16/10 15:25:06 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Orukpe cannot redshirt. He used his redshirt season last year at Three Rivers. It will be interesting to see how the glut shakes out. It's a nice problem to have.Submitted by dan from wichita
Q: Do you know if WSU's game Wed night is on any ESPN stations?
Answered 03/15/10 14:19:36 by Paul Suellentrop
A: It is not on TV.Submitted by Dishon from Wichita,Ks
Q: Are there any other basketball recruits Lined up for the spring signing period besides the guard from heights and what are the names of any other recruits that are maybe considering WSU? I have only been able to find info on a Marquise Carter who is a guard at Three rivers but he stated he would not make his decision until the spring. The only other recruits I've been able to find info on is a Matthew Brabham and In a previous shockwave article I beleave Graham Hatch mentioned a Stephen Rogers he played against when he went back home in December that played at Mesa Community College that he metioned to the coaching staff. It seems like info on WSU recruits and most mid major recruits is scarse so That is why I am asking for any info you may have. Also how is the development coming along with Jerome Hamilton,Kenny Manigault any other recruits we didn't really see this year? Do you think they will put Shock U over the top next year? I am specifically asking about Kenny because I see that he turned down Michigan, Virgina, and Marquette to come to Wichita state and we didn't really use him this year. After all the hype he had coming in I was a little discouraged by this. Is all well with him does he plan to transfer? Did the coaches have a reason for not using him much in year one?
Answered 03/15/10 10:56:04 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Evan Wessel, from Heights, won't sign until the fall. He is a junior at Heights. WSU's recruiting picture will clear up in the next few weeks. It is recruiting several players, and that could change if current players leave. I would also keep an eye on Anthony Cousin at Butler. Kenny will be interesting to watch. He is talented. He couldn't beat out Demetric for the back up point guard. He didn't develop like Demetric did, so that put him on the bench. What does that mean for next season? It means he needs to work hard in practice and earn Gregg Marshall's trust. He went through some normal freshman ups and downs. Unlike in past seasons, WSU didn't have to play freshmen if they weren't ready. That's why WSU is 25-9.Submitted by shox14 from Wichita, KS
Q: Well, it has started. Now that WSU is relevant in basketball again Marshall's name is being thrown out as a candidate for other openings. Rivals is reporting that Auburn has already been in contact with Marshall. My question is: If/When Marshall does leave why should any Shocker fan feel confident in Sexton's ability to find the next good coach to keep everything going? He doesn't have much experience and I am sure he doesn't have the greatest of contacts or respect across the country to be successful in that kind of search yet. I'm miss Schaus!
Answered 03/15/10 09:59:52 by Paul Suellentrop
A: If and when that time comes, I'm sure Eric Sexton has people he will rely on to help him, if he feels it necessary. WSU is a good job that will sell itself in many ways.Submitted by Bob Pope from Wichita, Kansas
Q: What is the name of the guard from Butler JUCO that WSU is interested in?
Answered 03/10/10 09:58:30 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Anthony Cousin.Submitted by will from wichita
Q: Good job shockers. Hey what do you think of the shocks next year without Hannah? I know Williams improved quite a bit but him and Hannah made a very good back court. Any incoming players that like to attack the basket?
Answered 03/09/10 10:40:51 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Losing Clevin will hurt. Demetric made great strides and should continue to improve. I expect WSU to add another guard who play point for depth and competition.
