Q: Has the deadline come and go for baseball players to sign pro contracts, did we end up losing anyone, or is the deadline tonight?

Answered 08/16/10 12:55:23 by Paul Suellentrop

A: The deadline is at 11 p.m. Central. I will check later today on Scott Schebler. He is the one who appears to be in doubt.

Q: With Nebraska leaving the Big 12, would WSU have any interest in joining the conference; Baseball only?

Answered 08/09/10 18:14:05 by Paul Suellentrop

A: I'm sure WSU would love it. However, it's unlikely to happen. I don't know if the Big 12 is interested. I know the MVC would not go along with that move.

Q: Speaking of Intrust BA, is the coaching staff still looking at playing a non-conference game there in the upcoming season (Tulsa perhaps?)

Answered 08/09/10 18:13:06 by Paul Suellentrop

A: Yes. I think that will happen. WSU has yet to confirm that, however.

Q: Paul, I noticed your considerable discussion about the difficulties of scheduling for non BCS men's basketball programs the other day. Will it be an advantage in drawing a big name school to Wichita for WSU to use the Intrust Bank Arena for such a game?

Answered 07/28/10 07:10:49 by Paul Suellentrop

A: WSU might be able to use IBA for some sort of neutral-neutral series. Would, say, Oklahoma State be interested in an OKC game and a game at IBA? Or would Kansas State be interested? I doubt it, but it's an angle to work. I don't think IBA changes WSU's ability to schedule significantly. Most high-profile schools don't go on the road often, regardless of the venue. At least IBA is another option and it may pay off at some point.

Q: I've noticed Garrett Stutz hasn't been playing pickup ball for a while. Everything ok with him?

Answered 07/26/10 14:50:21 by Paul Suellentrop

A: He took some time off to deal with an illness. I've seen him lifting weights. When I talked to Gregg Marshall last week, he said everything was OK with Garrett.

Q: Can you publish the current (2010-2011) Shocker basketball roster. Thanks...Dan

Q: During what period is Mens Basketball allowed to sign recruits? I realize there are recruiting periods allowed by the NCAA, but when are they allowed to sign kids? When are we allowed to sign High School players who will be Seniors in the Fall???

Answered 07/12/10 13:20:44 by Paul Suellentrop

A: There is a fall period and a spring period. The fall period is Nov. 10-17.

Q: I saw Workman was with the Wingnuts, but after just a few days I don't see his name in the box scores. Is he still with them, did he get hurt - again? Also, is McKeever the only other Shocker on the Wingnuts?

Answered 07/06/10 09:55:39 by Paul Suellentrop

A: The Wingnuts released Workman in late June, making McKeever the only Shocker on the roster.

Q: How is the men's basket ball team shaping up?

Answered 07/06/10 09:53:26 by Paul Suellentrop

A: The Shockers are playing and lifting in the afternoons this month. I hope to get out to see them in the next week or two. Nothing has changed - expectations are high.

Q: With all of the upheaval in college football conferences and the attention that it is attracting, wouldn't this be a good time for WSU to throw its name in the mix and put together some fundraising to bring back football?

Answered 06/05/10 12:04:20 by Paul Suellentrop

A: That time was 20 years ago. I don't think a startup football program is going to attract much attention. Could WSU better position itself for 10 years down the road? Perhaps. That does not solve the money problem. Starting a football program on the hope of someday joining a conference is a tough road.

Q: Paul : What is the status of Micah Green ? Was he injured ? Thanks.

Answered 06/02/10 10:15:40 by Paul Suellentrop

A: He redshirted.

Q: I see the Pac 10 put eight teams into the 64 team baseball tournament (8 out of 10 mine you!) and the Big 12 five or six. The Missouri Valley...ONE...again. It seems nothing changes with the NCAA when it comes to the big conferences no matter what sport it is. What does it take to fix the unjustice of this broken system?!

Answered 06/02/10 10:15:29 by Paul Suellentrop

A: The RPI seems to be a big problem. It would help it if was adjusted to account for home and road wins. The MVC needs Missouri State and Creighton to improve.

Q: not sure if you are checking this and could respond on shockwaves? is there a time that they won't allow a game to start? for instance, Wsu might be looking at a start time tonight of 1030 to 11pm, would they let a game start that late?

Answered 05/27/10 17:54:06 by Paul Suellentrop

A: If there are three games Friday, times are 11, 3 and 7. If there are two, we stick with 12:30 and 4. WSU won't start later than 11 p.m.

Q: Has Matt B. found an assistant's job for next year yet? Any options that you are aware of?

Answered 05/26/10 17:14:37 by Paul Suellentrop

A: Not that I have heard. I checked last week and he was still looking.

Q: Can you please post the brackets/schedule for the MV tournament...can't go to all the games but would like to catch some of them..thanks

Answered 05/24/10 10:29:36 by Paul Suellentrop

A: Here you go. http://blogs.kansas.com/shockwaves/

Q: Do you think WSU will send a player to the NBA in the near future and what would it take?

Answered 05/19/10 11:26:18 by Paul Suellentrop

A: Garrett Stutz has a chance. If he continues to progress at his current pace, he will be drafted, or at least get an opportunity to make an NBA roster. Gregg Marshall also says that Toure Murry has a chance if he reaches his highest potential.

Q: Here's a grand idea. How about removing the mens old Basketball Schedule on the WSU link! Enough is to much. Come on Paul the Basketball season is over already. What do ya say you post Softball, Track, Bowling, Golf individual scores or team scores Golf ....anything but outdated basketball scores. Surely you can update your website for fans of other sports than Basketball

Answered 05/17/10 17:09:52 by Paul Suellentrop

A: I'll pass on the suggestion. Thanks!

Q: Have you heard if Cyphers who transferred from Utah and the guard who was originally from Ks and I think transferred from Penn St(?) have found new colleges? I know we have no scholarhips left and are pretty thick at guard, so guessing WSU isn't an option for either after we just signed a guard last month?

Answered 05/11/10 12:20:21 by Paul Suellentrop

A: WSU is done recruiting, barring some big surprise. I have not heard on either of those players.

Q: What is your take on WSU Basketball's preseason consideration as a top 25 team? http://www.kake.com/sports/headlines/90843999.html?ref=999

Answered 05/10/10 14:42:05 by Paul Suellentrop

A: I don't think WSU has done enough to rank in the top 25. Close, very close. WSU might well end the season one of the top 25 teams in the nation. In November, I think it's a little too much.

Q: What is the status of coach Grants replacement? I feel assistant coaches are very important. I dont see a word about this subject, no names no speculation. What is up?Thanks

Answered 04/26/10 21:15:33 by Paul Suellentrop

A: http://www.kansas.com/2010/04/25/1285581/eight-not-great-when-it-comes.html Gregg Marshall is going to take his time filling this spot. The only name I would throw out as a possibility is Dana Ford, a former WSU grad assistant and currently at Tennessee State. He has a connection.
