Q: I have been thinking of patented Shocker shots: the X Man's turnaround J. Sherrod's sweet lefthanded jumper. Tony Martin's jack knife jumper. Antoine's dunk. Henry Carr's dopey free throw. 1. Which shot do you like the most? 2. What are other shots Shox are known for that I am missing.
Answered 09/17/09 16:59:56 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Paul Miller developed at least two signature moves - his faceup jumper from the block and a baseline drive and reverse layup. I didn't see him play, but fans used to call the baseline corner "Leach's Corner" for Dave Leach. Jason Perez seemed to have distinctive form on his jumper. I'll give an Antoine Carr dunk my vote. Quite powerful.Submitted by mike from El Dorado
Q: Well it's September...... Do you have an exact date when the NCAA will announce 1st and 2nd round sites?
Answered 09/09/09 13:19:14 by Paul Suellentrop
A: "mid-September" is the last thing the NCAA told me.Submitted by HankW from Wichita, Ks.
Q: Just saw the new WSU logo; yuk! Can't we just get rid of the wheat symbol?
Answered 09/02/09 13:57:30 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Apparently enough people like it.Submitted by Roscoe from Wichita
Q: Paul, which of the following players could start next year at WSU: Steve Grayer, Joe Griffin, Henry Carr.
Answered 08/26/09 14:44:47 by Paul Suellentrop
A: If you are talking about Grayer and Carr as seniors, I would think both would start. Carr would only start if Mike Cohen comes back to teach him free throws. I would think Griffin would have a shot, although Clevin Hannah should have a big senior season. Both are small and both are good shooters.Submitted by Dishon from Wichita,ks
Q: Would you rank the incoming valley recruting classes for mens basketball this year? Is their a website that tracks this info? I am excited about this class coming in and I was just curious how it stacked up confrence wide.
Answered 08/25/09 10:43:42 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Creighton guard Andrew Bock (No. 101) is the only MVC recruit Rivals ranks in its top 150. I have not seen a conference ranking. I would guess WSU would be in the top three or four, especially considering Johnny Coy is part of the five-man class. Indiana State's class will improve greatly if Iowa transfer Jake Kelly is eligible. I could rank them, but it wouldn't mean much because I haven't seen them.Submitted by melissa from wichita
Q: Hey, do you know that WSU has a Softball team. I dont think you do. They have actually been recruiting from the area and this year got two of the areas best players to stay here. Maybe with a little coverage more local girls would choose to stay. Seems like you cover everything else, just thought you may not know about the softball program. I have a young daughter that plays as do many other wichitans and our families would love to hear more about WSU's team. You never seem to even mention them in shockwaves and that wouldn't cost the paper any time or space.

A: Mike Perniciaro does a fine job recruiting without my help. Actually, all of the WSU coaches do.Submitted by T from wichita
Q: I read the storry about thenew logo online but noticed that there was no picture of it. Do you know where one could find a picture of the new logo.

Q: Have you heard any of the good news about WSU and Newman playing in an exhibition men's basketball game in 09? I think it will be great! What do u think??
Answered 08/18/09 15:42:10 by Paul Suellentrop
A: I had not heard that. It makes sense, now that Newman is NCAA Division II. It seems like a smart, cost-effective move for both schools.Submitted by dan from wichita
Q: See Heller got the job at Ind St in baseball, what happened to their previous coach? Also, wasn't Heller hired as an asst to Creighton? If so, did he take any of his NIU players with him to CU?
Answered 08/17/09 13:17:02 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Lindsay Meggs went to Washington. Heller was at Creighton. I don't think any of his UNI players went to Creighton.Submitted by dan from wichita
Q: Guess Gould hasn't signed 'yet' with LA. When is the last day he has to sign with them b4 it's too late. Sure he still will, but with probably less than 1 week, there is at least a slight chance we see him at WSU...
Answered 08/14/09 10:01:33 by Paul Suellentrop
A: The deadline is Aug. 17. Don't get your hopes up. It will be a big surprise if Garrett Gould becomes a Shocker.Submitted by Vic Heckart from Wichita, KS
Q: How is Tyler Grimes, the WSU starting shortstop, coming along with rehab of his wrist? He broke a bone in his wrist in the MVC tournament championship game when he attempted to score from 1st base. I don't remember if he scored or was thrown out then. There were 2 runners who came in on the play & one of them was out in a controversial call.
Answered 08/07/09 10:41:10 by Paul Suellentrop
A: I don't think he played this summer. I will check on that and some other injuries when the Shockers get close to fall baseball.Submitted by DANIEL from TULSA, OK
Q: I see WSU is signing another catcher, why?
Answered 08/05/09 09:27:14 by Paul Suellentrop
A: When Bob Arens comes to WSU next year, Chris O'Brien will be a junior and Cody Lassley will be gone. Makes sense to me.Submitted by Paul from derby
Q: I heard a brief list on KAKE sports of WSU baseball players not coming back in the fall but have not seen anything in the newspaper. who is not coming back and where are they going?
Answered 08/04/09 09:27:44 by Paul Suellentrop
A: You missed it in the Eagle on July 22. Andrew Letourneau, Josh Rosecrans, Cameron Maldonado, Clint Maune and Taylor Brown are not returning. http://www.kansas.com/sports/story/900319.htmlSubmitted by Pris Haydon from Fairhaven MA
Q: I really appreciated your giving us the opportunity to read about Gillaspie, Hottovy, etc. from their local papers. I try to follow Shockers in the minors on internet, but the info is pretty sparse. Being a Red Sox and Cape Cod League fan, it was good to read about Hottovy, as well as follow the 4 Shockers on Falmouth. My husband, Randy and I saw Cooper pitch at Wareham, also Jones and O'Brien and the relief pitcher pitch (forget his name). We think Cooper will pitch Saturday when we go again to Wareham. FYI, Randy was an Econ prof for 28 years at WSU -til '98 - and we were both very involved with all sports. My request is keep us informed about former Shocker athletes and say "Hi" to Mike Kennedy for us.

A: Will do. Thanks for keeping up.Submitted by dan from wichita
Q: Any info on the Gould/LA, other recruits who were drafted and signing status? Also, has there been any info on whom might not be returning next year in baseball?
Answered 07/13/09 14:09:42 by Paul Suellentrop
A: I have been on vacation, so I don't know much. There seems to be no doubt Gould will sign, probably in August. Any change would be a big surprise. He appears to be the only recruit WSU is in danger of losing at this point.Submitted by tom from Kingman, KS
Q: Paul, I saw Garrett Stutz in front of the camera for a short period of time on the news the other day and it looked to me that he had put on some weight (much needed for him, might I add). Is this the case or did the "face only" image mislead me? Thanks!
Answered 07/13/09 14:08:17 by Paul Suellentrop
A: I think he is getting bigger. I'm supposed to hook up with Kerry Rosenboom later this summer to get some testing numbers from the Shockers, so I will know more then. I can tell you everybody says Stutz is a hard worker who is serious about getting better. I'm sure he will look bigger and more mature as a sophomore.Submitted by shockerfan from wichita
Q: Really like the interviews you are doing with the b'ball players on Shockwaves. Would be great if you could do one every week, would like to see them with all the b'ball and baseball players - as much as your time permits, thx.
Answered 06/23/09 15:43:00 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Thanks. I can't get to everyone. I will try to do some of the new players over the summer.Submitted by dan from wichita
Q: I haven't seen any stats for kenny williams jr in the ks in the minors - is he hurt or maybe just can't get any stats on him? Also, did Kevin Hall get a medical RS last yr, will he be a soph or jr this coming season? I think if he is healty he could be a very good clg player, he showed signs of that the end of his frosh yr and beginning of last yr.
Answered 06/17/09 13:37:27 by Paul Suellentrop
A: Kevin Hall will be a sophomore. He redshirted with his back injury. Kenny Williams is hitting .222 with Kanapolis in Class A. I will get his name added to Kansans in the Minors.Submitted by Dean from Cincinnati
Q: I noticed that SIU picked up a commitment from Jack Crowder from Cowley College. I have heard (mostly from Saluki fans) that he is a great pickup for them, but mostly I haven't heard anything about him at all. What is the real scoop here? Were the Shockers (or anybody else) interested in him. Is he D1 quality? Thanks in advance.
Answered 06/09/09 17:29:49 by Paul Suellentrop
A: No idea. I have not seen him play. I did not hear anything about WSU recruiting him, but his position is not one that WSU needed help at. He said TCU also offered him, which seems like a good recommendation. Sorry, can't help you win any arguments. We will have to see how he plays.Submitted by Michael from
Q: Hey, with WSU submitting a NCAA tournament bid, I have some questions regarding that. Do they announce all of the sites for 2011, 2012, and 2013 in September or do they release those on a year by year basis? Secondly what do you think Wichita's chances are of actually winning a bid? I would think that since we are close to KU and OU they would surely think that they could sell out the arena if they sent those teams there. It will be interesting to see. Exciting times...until they raise the seating capacity for first and second rounds.
Answered 06/08/09 11:33:10 by Paul Suellentrop
A: They announce all three seasons in September. I think Wichita has a good chance. Tickets sale are a problem at some first-round sites. Not in Wichita.
