A: Sorry Tom, I'm not sure I know what you're talking about. I give a few fishing reports on my weekly e-letter, if that's what you've heard about. You can sign-up for it at www.kansas.com/outdoors. Thanks, Michael Pearce

Q: Michael Pearce, I’m a big fan of your articles and photos in the paper. I really enjoy reading them every Sunday. I was wondering if you have done, or are planning on doing one on big Kansas flatheads? I’ve got a lot of friends in Derby, including myself, that would love to see one. I’m sure there are a lot of others in the surrounding areas that would enjoy it too. Keep up the good work!!!

A: Several years ago I did an article on some brothers who take big flatheads from very small creeks in the Flint Hills. I'm certainly open to doing another flathead article. Thanks, Michael Pearce The Wichita Eagle If you have any ideas or possible contacts, please send me an e-mail at mpearce@wichitaeagle.com

Q: Mike sorry to bother you at work, I have the caringbridge website for Gary and didn't have an email address for you. We go to MD Anderson next week, and if you would like the website please let me know and I will email it to you. Denise

Q: Are you at all interested in doing an article about why prescribed fire is good? For wildlife? for the prairie? for reducing fuel loads? The Eagle and the TV news has been full of negativity about fire w/o a countering article showing anywhere. 785-452-0780

Q: I keep your newsletters archived so I can go back to the recipes. I was just searching for a jerky recipe. I didn't find any, but found mentions of goose jerky and venison jerky. Can you share one in an upcoming newsletter? Thanks.

Q: Michael, I don't have a question but I received a surprise in the mail today. I don't know how I did it but I entered the contest (at your booth) at the Boat Sports & Travel show Saturday and I Chose your photo of "Hank" should I be lucky enough to "win". Guess I did because I have that wonderful photo in my hands.... Thank you so much, I am thrilled. Kathie Sinclair

Answered 02/25/09 15:28:28 by Michael Pearce

A: Kathie, We've always distributed the staff photos on display at the sports show via drawing. That's why we ask voters to mark their favorite staff photo on the ballot. Yours was the first ballot drawn with that photo listed. I kept drawing ballots until every photo had been requested. I'm glad you like it. The photo was shot in December at a private duck marsh in western Reno County. As you can tell, the snow was falling and the wind was really whipping. Hank's pretty laid-back. I've seen him take nap when he's almost totally covered in snow. I called the photo "Snow Snooze." Michael Pearce The Wichita Eagle

Q: Have you heard any thing else about the record deer taken outside of Atlanta? Thanks for your time.

Answered 02/16/09 11:26:42 by Michael Pearce

A: Nope, only that a big deer was taken in that area. ...I get several "world record" reports every year. Too bad there's not enough time to chase them all down. If you hear of anything else, though, please send me an e-mail. Bests, Michael Pearce

Q: I delivered a photo for the outdoor contest, to your down town address. I believe I left off the Email address which is shown above. The picture was titled Lake Winnipesaukee NH sunset (Fall 2008). I hope my mistake didn't eliminate the photo

Answered 02/16/09 11:25:40 by Michael Pearce

A: Thanks for the information. You're fine.

Q: My son, wife, and I, as well as my in-laws uploading entries to your Great Outdoors photo contest. Will we receive a confirmation e-mail that the entries were received? We really enjoy your column. Thank you! Tom

Answered 02/09/09 09:50:01 by Michael Pearce

A: Sorry, Tom. But I don't think we're sending confirmations. If you follow the instructions you should be in great shape. Maybe next year we can have a way to do confirmations. Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to seeing your entries. Michael Pearce The Wichita Eagle

Q: There was a recipe for Pheasant in your column some time ago. I clipped it out at that time, but it has been misplaced. Can you provide the recipe?

Answered 02/06/09 12:51:58 by Michael Pearce

A: Probably...but I need to know which recipe. Please e-mail me directly at mpearce@wichitaeagle.com

Q: Hi Michael, I entered the great outdoors contest twice, and I was wondering if you could get rid of the first submission, and keep the second one called "Frozen lakeside". I think it is a much better photo then the first!! Thank you for your help, Michelle Spaulding :)

Answered 02/03/09 08:57:32 by Michael Pearce

A: Hi Michelle, Unfortunately we get many people who enter more than one photo, despite what the entry rules say. Normally we select one at random and delete the rest. Thanks for your interest. Michael Pearce The Wichita Eagle

Q: I would like to enter a photo in the contest, I tried to e-mail per the site provided however it would not send it, could I send it to your e-mail address. Thank you Brett

Answered 01/27/09 12:05:00 by Michael Pearce

A: Hi Brett, Sorry, not. Be sure you read the directions on attaching the photo and filling out the form. All of the information should be there. If you continue to have problems you can e-mail brader@wichitaeagle.com Thanks for your interest. Michael Pearce The Wichita Eagle
