Q: why isn't TB on the radio any more?
Answered 05/06/09 10:02:55 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Tampa Bay? Taco Bell? Oh, Terrell Benton. I don't have an answer, I don't get to listen to that show much.Submitted by Curious George from Wichita
Q: Check it. I am 40ish, bald(ing)but you put me in the box for five at bats against oral roberts, and i guaran-darn-tee i can put the ball in play at least once. Say me I'm wrong.
Answered 03/26/09 10:58:31 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Yeah, but you wouldn't have the Man with the Yellow Hat in the box with ya, so I dunno. Maybe a comebacker to the pitcher?Submitted by Chief from wichita kansas
Q: Why does the Wichita Eagle not list the times of local teams when AT&T provides coverage. I saw last nights Shocker game on Channel 1005 and next Mondays game will be covered on that channel also.
Answered 03/19/09 10:16:39 by Kirk Seminoff
A: U-Verse's channel number was indeed listed prior to the game.Submitted by deb from cottonwood falls, ks
Q: I was wondering why, under the K-State online sports section today in the Eagle, you have a story on KU Women beating Baylor (yes, it was listed under the K-State section) but no story on K-State's senior night featuring three native Kansas seniors beating number 15 Texas? We recently moved back to Kansas and wonder if this is the type of "balanced" coverage the Eagle provides.
Answered 03/05/09 09:33:20 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Both games were under one headline in the paper, so the story goes to both the KU and KSU pages. This is the second time all season we've put KU ahead of K-State in a women's roundup. Second time. KU beat No. 5. KSU beat No. 15. Pretty easy decision for us.Submitted by jordan from california, ca
Q: I am doing my state report and I chose Kansas. I need to write about a state hero. Do you know of any sport hero in Kansas ?
Answered 02/03/09 11:08:28 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Jordan, sorry to take so long. If you're looking for a non-sports hero, I go with former Senator Bob Dole (a World War II veteran) or pilot Amelia Earhart. Sports heroes? Barry Sanders would be my pick.Submitted by R Compton from Wichita, ks
Q: Last year Kansas.com had a link to some information on local sporting events and activities such as upcoming tournament information. I think it was called Hometown Sports. Is this site still available and if so where can I find it?
Answered 02/03/09 11:07:08 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Go to www.kansas.com/sports/other and look for the "Hometown Sports" link.Submitted by Steve from Bellaire, Mi
Q: When a major college athlete is injured and requires surgery or other medical treatment, who pays the medical bill? Does the university pay for insurance for their athletes? If so, would the same hold true for say a member of the marching band that is injured?
Answered 01/06/09 09:37:40 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Yes, the university holds health insurance policies on its athletes. Marching band will probably vary from school to school, though I don't think many would. I see where you're going, and while I love a good marching band more than anyone, you're not paying $50 a ticket at Ohio Stadium to watch the sousaphone guy dot the I. You're going for 60 minutes of football.Submitted by Byron Bumgarner from quail ridge golf course
Q: How do I search past issues for holes in one online? Thanks and "Happy New Year"!
Answered 01/06/09 09:35:11 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Past holes-in-one are not going to be available in our searches. Most items that run on our Scoreboard pages are not archived.Submitted by Carlos Blacklock from Wichita
Q: Are there any local Wichita stations negotiating with the NFL network to show the 2009 Insight Bowl or are we stuck with the NFL network?
Answered 12/18/08 16:44:03 by Kirk Seminoff
A: We're told that yes, there are negotiations to bring the Insight Bowl to over-the-air TV. Since New Year's Eve programming probably isn't a high priority, I'd guess the game makes local TV.Submitted by Terry from Burlington
Q: Has Jeff Martin retired from the Eagle?

A: No.Submitted by ralph from andover
Q: I do not have cable because I am not home enough to justify the expense. I usually get my NFL info from the Eagle online. Today I cannot get any NFL news except the Chiefs because of the new format. Pro or NFL tabs have been left off. Hope this can be fixed. r

Q: Could someone e-mail me the list of Basketball players out of Kansas Schools who are playing in the pro's and who for, it was in the paper a few days ago but I forgot to cut it out. THANKS Fred

A: Fred, we'll ran KANSANS IN THE NBA once a week, usually on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.Submitted by Jenny Cook from Wichita,KS
Q: Kirk, Do not know if this is where I should ask but Julie Cook had a great opening game for Rockhurst and posted a triple double in their overtime win. The report and box scores are at www.rockhurst.edu. I have seen little blips of former Wichita HS athletes and thought this might be news worthy? Thanks Kirk, Jenny (Proud Mom)
Answered 11/17/08 09:34:47 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Thanks for the heads-up, Jenny. We need these kinds of reminders with so many Wichita-area athletes going on to college careers. Much appreciated.Submitted by Larry from Wichita, KS
Q: KU loses to highly favored OU on the road by a repectable score. The only other loss is to another favored team on the road by 3 points. How do the polls drop them from 16 to 23? If they are really deserving of that low a ranking, how is their next game with Texas Tech (which is with another top 10 team)rated a toss-up? How many pollsters are politicians, used car salesmen, or weathermen?
Answered 10/20/08 09:43:14 by Kirk Seminoff
A: I think on a national scale, Kansas is still looked at as a pretender. They've got to win a big one (this week against Tech, for example) to be taken more seriously. As to comparing rankings with betting lines: remember, pollsters do not set odds; oddmakers are MUCH smarter.Submitted by Steve Thissen from Avon, Colorado
Q: Phil Steele's halftime all big 12 omitted Chet Hartley and Todd Reesing. All these men have ever done is win. If KU needs a 1st down or a TD they go behind Chet, or Todd goes outside and gets it done. Think Gene Upshaw and Fran Tarkenton from the past. Be quiet, play hard and win. ST
Answered 10/15/08 09:35:04 by Kirk Seminoff
A: I also find it interesting that Reesing is never at the tip of anyone's ESPN tongue when rattling off great Big 12 quarterbacks. Daniel, McCoy, Bradford, Harrell, Robinson . . . OK, when are they gonna mention the guy who's sometime carrying 10 other Jayhawks on his back? Josh Freeman is moving into that category, too.Submitted by John from Andover, KS
Q: Hello, Kirk. Not sure who to direct this question to since I'm not aware of a TV/Media columnist for the Eagle. Any word on what will happen to FSN HD now that the Royals season is ending? I've e-mailed Cox, but predictably haven't received any response. You would think that Cox would want to make that a permanent channel in their lineup - KU/K-State football and basketball games would be better than a screen showing Royals games/dates that have already passed.
Answered 10/06/08 10:17:57 by Kirk Seminoff
A: I'll try to find out, though I seem to have no better luck getting an answer from Cox than anyone else.Submitted by PK from Andover
Q: If the KC Chiefs games become subject to a blackout will this affect the Wichita television stations?
Answered 09/18/08 11:15:52 by Kirk Seminoff
A: No, since Wichita is more than 75 miles from KC, it is not considered a direct market for the Chiefs and still eligible to carry home games. The only thing that would affect you being able to watch Chiefs games on CBS here is if KWCH decided not to carry a game because the team's so bad, but I was told last year that circumstance would likely never happen.Submitted by Curious Shocker from Wichita, KS
Q: Any word on how former Shocker Cori Meyer is doing as the head coach for Southwestern College Volleyball? Curious to see how this former Shocker standout has made the transition into coaching and the Eagle doesn't ever have much to say on any Southwestern sport.

A: No, no word, though it's a good blog topic for Tony Adame at blogs.kansas.com/statecolleges.Submitted by Cynthia from Hutchinson KS
Q: I read the answer to an earlier question about the KU beat writer. Does this mean that Rick Plumlee is no longer writing for The Eagle? If so, I'm sorry to hear that. P.S. Your mom was my 4th grade teacher at South Hillside!
Answered 09/02/08 10:25:06 by Kirk Seminoff
A: Hi Cynthia, Rick is still with the Eagle, now as a part of our Business department covering agriculture, oil and gas. Shout out to South Hillside! Some of my most memorable childhood days were spent watching mom teach when my school was out for the day.
