Opinion Line (Nov. 8)

The article "Top clunker trade's mileage isn't much better" (Nov. 5 Eagle) showed the government's inability to administer even the smallest programs.

If you think about it, Cash for Clunkers was a huge success: It got rid of 90 percent of the Obama bumper stickers.

There stood Rep. Todd Tiahrt on the Capitol steps behind the lunatic Michele Bachmann, with Nazi chants resonating and racist posters abounding. Welcome to Kansas politics. Republicans must be so proud.

It's hilarious to see an eight-term U.S. representative who now wants to be a U.S. senator speak disparagingly about people having "a life of dependency."

Were the computer models that forecast stimulus job creation done by the same guys who forecast global warming?

The last time we saw this level of unemployment was during President Reagan's first term in office. Today Reagan is regarded as one of our greatest presidents. But we all want the current occupant of the White House out of town on a rail.

Thanks, McClatchy Newspapers, for the revealing stories on the disgusting behavior of Goldman Sachs. In a just world, these and other Wall Street bad guys would be prosecuted. Instead, they keep getting multimillion-dollar bonuses. Why, President Obama?

The City Council members and county commissioners are the CEOs of Wichita and Sedgwick County. Just image them running Boeing or Koch Industries. Those companies would be broke in a few months. These people don't understand common sense or profit.

Why can't one intersection on West Street be finished before another one is being worked on? All the major east-west streets across West Street are either partly closed or closed. A 10-year-old kid could plan better than that.

Our streets are falling apart, but we get to see Brad Paisley. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

We got the world's biggest band, the Rolling Stones, without a new arena. Now we have a new arena and all we get are Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Reba McEntire? Have a nice walk.

The Wichita Toy Run is not out to get attention. The participants are giving toys and bicycles to children who wouldn't have gotten anything otherwise. At least they are out there for a good cause and not complaining about others.

You would not say that the Shriners were nothing but "big attention-getters" if your child needed them to pay for medical needs or you needed help buying Christmas gifts for your children.
