Obama wants to provide two years of “free” community college for everyone but cut the tax benefit for college savings (529 plan) accounts. Translation: more control over political indoctrination while further reducing “free choices” in learning.

House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are out of place. Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu knows it is not their place and that he is also out of place. All three of them need to be disciplined.

Two issues are up before the Legislature: allowing medical marijuana for the ill (which we all know won’t pass) and allowing anyone who can sign their name to carry a concealed weapon for “protection” (which we all know will pass). What’s wrong with this picture?

According to Thursday’s front page, the Kansas Highway Patrol has 16 percent fewer troopers, the Legislature is trying to legalize concealed weapons for everyone, and Wichita wants to reduce the penalties for marijuana. What a scary combination.

County Commissioners Tim Norton and Dave Unruh certainly have the look on their faces like somebody killed their puppy now that they don’t automatically have their way and are the minority.

Now that Americans’ Ebola paranoia has subsided, let’s get back to reality and get vaccinated for measles, which happen to be a real threat.

Many people work for the government – air traffic controllers, meat inspectors, inspectors looking for gas leaks, the scientists working at the CDC, judges, the lady who types your Social Security check, those nasty folks who give you a crop insurance refund. Who should get the first pink slip?
