It seems not to have occurred to the VA bashers that the root of this problem is an enormous influx of new patients without a corresponding influx of funding for new staff.

To paraphrase a great American, you come home to the VA you have, not the VA you wish you had.

The VA hospital scandal should be a major concern for all of us. If President Obama is unable to serve the most entitled of our citizens, the military personnel who defend us, common sense signals that with Obamacare we are all in deep trouble.

We obviously left Iraq far too soon. Obama has told the enemy we are leaving Afghanistan. The war against the Muslim Taliban terrorists is not even close to being over. Better to kill them there than to have them here.

Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona should buy one-way bus tickets to Washington, D.C., for all the illegal immigrants from Central America that the federal government is dumping on Arizona.

It won’t be your “cold, dead hand.” It will be your child’s or grandchild’s – if people don’t stop allowing themselves to be manipulated by both the National Rifle Association and the gun lobby, which have everything to gain financially. We can pass sensible gun legislation.

A national excise tax should be added to all gun sales in order to provide TSA-type screening at all high schools in the U.S. Something drastic needs to be done to stop this national tragedy fostered by the obsession with guns.

Murderer Calvin Higdon, paroled and living in Sedgwick County (June 8 Eagle), is why I carry a gun. As of now, so will my 21-year-old daughter.

Please don’t let state Sen. Carolyn McGinn run out Sedgwick County Commissioner Richard Ranzau. He is the only person besides Commissioner Karl Peterjohn who has any common sense and isn’t afraid to say “no.”

I was very disappointed in the finale night of Riverfest. I saw many people leave after the laser show started. Also, please be respectful of families with young children. The starting time was 10 p.m. and things ran 40 minutes late. Please bring back the fireworks.

Why do men who perform at Intrust Bank Arena refuse to shave, comb their hair and wear clean clothes? Why do they yell and scream instead of really singing, as music is taught in schools and universities? Why is the amplification so overwhelming?
