Kansans are fortunate that Gov. Sam Brownback’s eagerness to implement his policies immediately after his inauguration has resulted in their disastrous results beginning to become evident well in advance of his re-election bid. Timing is everything.
The photo of Newt Gingrich and Pat Roberts was disturbing (Nov. 9 Local & State) – two out-of-touch ultraconservative Republicans boasting about their accomplishments, surrounded by their supporters. I am a lifelong Republican, but I’m finished. Split from the Republican Party, boys, take the tea party with you, and let the Republican Party reform.
Tea partiers may not like big government, but only cranks expect them to give up Medicare benefits after paying into the system their entire working lives. Besides, insurance options for seniors hardly even exist.
Every time I turn on a TV, I get someone talking about health insurance or health care. I keep remembering what my father told me more than 50 years ago: “Beware of the guy who says, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.’”
If some people think it is acceptable to “spread the risk” on health insurance, let’s do the same on auto insurance. Having two teenage boys on my policy is costing me a fortune.
The one good thing coming from the failure of Obamacare is that it got Obama to shut up for now about making the border-crossing criminals in this country legal and ultimately voters.
Wouldn’t it be great to have the totally truthful George W. Bush back in office? We could all then pretend to be Christians while slaughtering our young men and women in wars we do not need to fight.
As I recall, the story about Iraq’s WMDs was supported by all top Democrats.
Doctors would not “breeze in” to do abortions if they could stay in their own communities to do them without getting harassed out of business (Nov. 8 Opinion). If Operation Rescue’s Cheryl Sullenger is worried about women being safe, she could start by leaving them and their doctors alone.
I don’t understand why Big Dog Motorcycles continued to get huge loans from the bank if it had gone bankrupt (Nov. 8 Business Today). Both the bank and the company were irresponsible.
Simply adding “-ize” does not make a real new word. “Analogize,” “monetize,” “securitize” and “incentivize” (the favorite of politicians) are not real words. It is much more impressive when the speaker actually uses correct English.
