What everybody is missing on this tax issue is that middle-class people want the upper-class people to pay at the same rate they pay. That would just naturally result in the rich paying more taxes, not a higher percentage. And if no one got back more than he paid in, the IRS would have plenty of money.

Kansas needs to hurry up and catch up to the rest of the country and start reforming our marijuana laws. I’m tired of my tax dollars paying for pot smokers to sit around in jail all day.

Isn’t it ironic that four of the biggest industries in Kansas – oil, farming, military industrial complex and military bases – are heavily or completely subsidized by the federal government? Talk about hypocrisy.

It’s interesting and sad to see people tout opinions as facts without any basis other than their ignorance. The Second Amendment was written to protect the newly formed country from oppressive governments. The right to bear arms meant the right to own guns equal to what the government had, not just flintlock rifles.

In an effort to dilute the meaning of the Second Amendment, anti-gun people point to the “well regulated militia” portion of the Second Amendment to base their arguments. They intentionally ignore the specific intent of the amendment that states “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

When will this “more guns equals less gun violence” equation start paying off? When prosperity starts trickling down? The statistics on both have been going in the wrong direction for a long time.

Where can a child-free, country-living agnostic find a friend around here?

To all the farmers who provide for the world: Thank you. Tough times come and go, but mostly stay awhile. The book “The Sheer Ecstasy of Being a Lunatic Farmer,” by Joel Salatin, provides simple, remarkable and cost-saving alternative farming techniques to continue soil and drought resistance production on farms. Check it out.

There’s nothing like being awakened in the morning by someone who is not smart or law-abiding enough to put a muffler on his motorcycle. If I can just get him to drive by at the right time each morning, I can sell my alarm clock. Thanks, WPD.

I have received a pretty good education from reading Opinion Line. I am now an expert on politics, religion, marriage, divorce, same-sex marriage, abortion, unethical election tactics, raising babies, love, hate, the Westboro Baptist Church, nude dancing, theft, robbery and about everything else that goes on in Kansas. Thank you.
