As a Kansas Turnpike retiree with 39 years service, I saw Wednesday as a sad day for the state of Kansas. Has a government organization ever run a business any better than a private organization? If you think so, look at our economic situation in this country.

Did our governor really say, “But judicial independence must rest firmly on the consent of the people”? Welcome to 1984.

This sort of thing is going to become more and more common: The rich get a tax cut, and Wichita’s aviation training center gets a budget cut.

Senate Bill 72 should not be approved. If you set up a for-profit corporation, you should not avoid taxes.

We should make nonprofits pay taxes on their recurring profit-making endeavors, instead of passing new laws to aid businesses hurt by competition with nonprofits. Tax exemption should only apply to actual charitable activities.

All Kansas health clubs should have to pay property taxes, including the YMCA, and individual club members should get a medical tax deduction for their membership dues paid to the health club.

The reason many of us prefer the Y as our health club is that we’ve been burned by buying memberships in private health clubs only to have them fold soon after.

Advance voting has begun. Let’s get out and vote for Mike Rodee for Wichita school board. We know him as a businessman, and someone who has been keeping up with the issues and is ready to serve the school community.

Please think of the city as a whole and support the challenger for the City Council seat in your district with your vote. We cannot continue on the path the current council members have set.

Gays and lesbians don’t realize that their immoral lifestyle is a fulfillment of what is to occur in the end-times. When Christ returns, he’s not coming as a lamb. He’s coming as King, and every knee shall bow.

My right to marry a person of the same gender does not depend on your interpretation of the Bible or your comfort level with me.

Local TV news reruns should be shown on TV Land with “Bewitched” and “I Love Lucy.” How inept and lazy are these people if they are unable or unwilling to find something new to report between 6 and 10 p.m.?

I’m absolutely in love with my dog.
