A nation trying to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.


Wealth is to be earned or created, not redistributed.


Since our state legislators believe they can trump federal constitutional supremacy with regard to lawmaking (their pre-emptive attempt to exclude Kansas from any federal gun-control legislation), surely they would accept local governments trumping state laws regarding concealed-carry expansion.


People move to a state for its quality of life. Anyone who would move to a state simply to avoid state income taxes would have to be extremely wealthy, extremely dim or more likely both.


Surely I am not the only Kansan noticing the increasing similarity between the policies of Gov. Sam Brownback and President Obama. Say it isn’t so.


Watching the recent interview with Mitt Romney just about made me sick. To think that this country could have had him as our president, but the no-information voters chose Obama.


Republicans who don’t know the economy has been growing since the third quarter of 2009 need to get out of the Fox News bubble and get an understanding of what is really going on in the world.


If today’s economy is poor, then I’ve never seen a good economy in my 70-plus years.


If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license but not for being in the country illegally, you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.


Being pro-choice does not mean that I am pro-abortion. It means that I understand another person’s reproduction is none of my business.


Just one more thing law enforcement ignores: Isn’t it child endangerment when someone smokes in a vehicle when children are present?


Dear Shockers: A couple of years ago you won five games in a row and we became NIT champs. WSU men and women: Just win the next six games and see what happens.


At a fast-food place, I found I didn’t have any money or my debit card with me. I canceled the order and started to leave when the cashier said she would pay for it and let me repay her later, which I did. I was so appreciative.


Why is it so hard for people to “live and let live”?
