The direction we are headed with President Obama and Obamacare is like jumping out of the 12th-story window and, while passing the fifth floor, saying, “Everything’s OK so far.”

The Kochs have done a lot for Wichita and many others. It is unfair to belittle them and to repeat the fallacy that they do not pay taxes.

If I were running the Wichita chamber’s Air Force tanker marketing effort, the first thing I would do is persuade Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran to wholeheartedly support Chuck Hagel, who will be the secretary of defense when this decision is made. What are these guys thinking?

If a state election were held tomorrow, would Gov. Sam Brownback and Secretary of State Kris Kobach be re-elected? I hope not.

While Brownback expects all those big corporations to flood into Kansas because of his no-tax ideas, those same corporations get to tell prospective employees that they can enjoy drug testing during typical layoffs when they draw unemployment insurance. That will have them coming here in droves.

The only people who should be allowed to have guns are combat veterans, who won’t accidentally shoot the wrong person and will not panic when shot or shot at. We had all the proper training under fire.

My buddy who was drafted to serve in Vietnam always said that as the bullets whizzed around him, and he was scrambling for safety, his only thought was to get home and defend the privilege of owning guns.

It will not matter what reading, math and science standards are adopted as long as there are no consequences for students who don’t learn them. If students are allowed to move to the next grade and even graduate without meeting these standards, what is the point of having them?

Reducing funding for public programming – the latest idea brought to you by the Republicans.

I am angry and disgusted that so many of these lying athletes are treated like heroes and paid megabucks when real heroes such as police officers, firemen and soldiers scrape to get by. Let’s get our priorities straight.

There still are nice people in this world. I had car trouble at Kwik Shop in Goddard and would like to thank the lady driving a black pickup who was so helpful, and also the nice gentleman who offered to help.
