I was deeply saddened to learn of the events in Newtown, Conn. God welcomed those innocent children home, and Satan gained another disciple. What on Earth has happened to America?

Defenseless children shot down at a grade school. I blame the spineless politicians who are afraid of the NRA and the gun lobby. We need reasonable gun laws now. No more assault weapons. No more large-capacity clips.

When was the last time the federal government passed a law that expanded all Americans’ freedom? Laws enacted only reduce our liberties anymore.

It is comforting to know that the chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee has a personal perspective on juggling and discharging debts through bankruptcy. We will need his expertise when Kansas goes bankrupt after the new income-tax cuts for the wealthy.

Way to go, Sedgwick County Commission, on voting down the Bowllagio development. And you wonder why companies and developers choose other cities over Wichita.

Instead of Bowllagio, how about a nice little fishing pond?

Those bad old Koch brothers are at it again. They have 150 job openings and plan on adding 745 people. And they’re paying for all road construction themselves, not government. Are any of those big union companies doing anything for you? Didn’t think so.

Wait – I thought the memo said Koch Industries would have to have layoffs if President Obama was re-elected. Guess not.

Nearly all the Share the Season stories in The Eagle are about people who have become sick and have no health insurance. Thanks, President Obama, for the health care bill. It will make our country stronger.

I’ll bet Obama meets with Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, and comes to an accord with him about long-range missiles in the near future – right after he determines what his handicap is and what golf course he will be playing at when he’s in the area.

The only way to get the Republicans to negotiate is to let the tax cuts expire and spending cuts become law. You then will see a rush to the negotiating table so they can protect their cushy government jobs. To the uninformed right wing, this is how government works.

Do you liberals know who has been president the past four years? Obama. He is the one who headed us off the fiscal cliff with all his spending and waste.

If the new FCC ruling on the volume of TV commercials holds true, that’s just fine with me. And I don’t and won’t do business with idiots who wave their arms and yell at me.

I believe I figured out backing into parking places: It’s a western Kansas bumpkin thing.
