Projects like the Ambassador Hotel should only proceed based on expected profit, not public subsidies. Will the downtown tax giveaway ever end? No.

Phil Ruffin is now offering $100 million to try to get a revote to put slots in his dog track? It closed for a reason — 10 years of neglect and a losing business model. Let’s stick with the $300 million Kansas Star Casino, a much classier operation and operator.

What happened to the ban on smoking in a public place? What smoking law does the Kansas Star Casino operate under?

Poor Michelle Obama had to start the family’s Christmas vacation Dec. 17 instead of waiting for her husband so they could fly together. Who cares about the thousands of dollars that taxpayers had to pay so she could fly a separate plane?

Boeing now changing its story about the tanker work coming to Wichita is like Kim Jong Il saying he had 11 holes-in-one the first time he played golf. You can understand a now deceased despicable ruler not telling the truth, but it’s wrong for a large American defense contractor to do so.

When Dan Glickman was in Congress, Boeing thrived. Under Todd Tiahrt and Mike Pompeo, Boeing died.

While our Kansas elected officials were busy monitoring high school tweets, looking for voter fraud under rocks, promoting nuptials for the masses, and sticking their noses into female reproductive issues, Boeing was packing its bags. And I’d bet the rent they’ll all be re-elected, because this is Kansas and they are Republicans.

I saw the “Saturday Night Live” skit on Tim Tebow. What an absolutely despicable mockery of the Christian religion. To make matters worse, some people in the audience even laughed. If the show did the same mockery of the Muslim religion, all heck would break loose.

What a lovely and touching tribute from Sasha Vliet to her late father (Dec. 22 Wichitalk). What a loss for your family and the community.

I read the column by Sasha Vliet about her parents’ marriage and said, “Wow, that was my experience, too.” How sad that many children only know Mom’s current sleepover boyfriend. Marriage makes a difference.

The two most useless things in the world are a dull knife and a sharp tongue.
