Businesses just pass along the cost of their water-rate increases to the public, which results in the taxpayer paying the entire cost of the water-rate increases. High-volume water users can now install a well, which is cheaper than using city water and in turn results in additional water-rate increases. Where does this madness end? When does cost-effective budget management come into play?
Dental health groups are encouraging the city of Wichita to fluoridate our water. If fluoride in the water will prevent cavities, maybe we should add some Lipitor to lower cholesterol, a little Prozac to calm people down, and maybe some Prilosec to calm all the indigestion, etc. We should not mass medicate through our water system to compensate for those who won’t brush their teeth.
Why are people so intent on killing the redevelopment of an older building in downtown Wichita into a very nice hotel? The tax dollars that will be rebated to the developers will not come from you unless you stay at the hotel. Just because it says “tax” does not mean you paid into it.
Earlier this year, Gov. Sam Brownback said we had to cut school spending by $100 million to balance the budget. Now the state has a projected $253 million surplus. Either Brownback had a monkey doing the math or he cooked the books on the backs of Kansas schoolchildren in order to make himself look good and give all his rich buddies a tax cut.

Has anybody seen Newt Gingrich’s birth certificate?
The trouble with the current retirement program for our senators and representatives is that it takes too long before it happens.
The nation has experienced the ages of enlightenment, industrialism, innocence, imperialism, unreason and now the age of abuse. Including government, group and individual, corporation, cleric and secular, abuse has become prevalent in all areas of the country. Be afraid of the next age, very afraid.
While we were sleeping at the wheel, the National Defense Authorization Act was passed by Congress. This act will give gestapo-type powers to pick up and indefinitely detain any domestic citizen without trial.
Why is it that lobbyists can bribe politicians but I can’t bribe cops?

I don’t know how the K- State players do it. I get scared looking at Frank Martin’s picture in the paper.
Is it just me, or is Charlie Weis a slightly smaller version of former KU coach Mark Mangino?
