The Congressional Budget Office says the health care overhaul will cost nearly $1 trillion and still leave 17 million Americans uninsured. Stop this madness now. Quit wasting time on an absurd quest to take over one-sixth of our economy.

If the executives don't want their pay cut, then perhaps their firms could pay back the bailout funds they took from taxpayers. President Obama is only after those banks that haven't paid back the TARP funds.

People in their late 60s are being forced to go back to work, or not retire at all, because of our shaky economy. These people have worked all their lives, and now they are afraid of how much money will be taken from them and given to the ones who were too lazy to work at all.

Why aren't the liberal media criticizing President Obama for the high gasoline prices and the shortage of flu vaccine?

The airline pilots who went past their destination by 150 miles say they were on their personal laptops and lost track of time. With so many lives put in harm's way, this should be a crime punishable by prison time.

By what measure are 70 percent of kids in Wichita schools poor? When I was a kid, if you had a roof over your head, were eating fairly regularly and had one adult working, you weren't poor, just the norm. Save the "poor" distinction — and the excuse for failure that goes along with it — for kids who are homeless or living on their own.

Deb Gruver's account of her dogs Lucy and Scout (Oct. 24 Wichita Paws) was deeply moving. It was heartening to read of her sensitive awareness of Lucy's needs and the success she achieved with her care. Blessings on Deb and all who are like her.
