End saber rattling over Ukraine
If we look at what erupted in Ukraine as a civil disturbance pitting a part of the Ukrainian/Russia population wanting economic ties to European Union cronyism against those wanting to maintain the status quo with ties to Russian cronyism, we are given to understand it as the likely emergence of just another civil war enveloping yet another distant region of the world in which the American republic has no legitimacy meddling.
Crimea is an autonomous republic of the Ukraine populated by mostly Russians, and its duly elected parliament will present to the citizens a referendum to choose whether to become part of Russia. That should give the rest of the world pause to appreciate that the only outside country with any legitimacy to become involved is Russia.
The saber rattling in Congress and in the news media needs to cease and desist. The Cold War ended decades ago.
Never miss a local story.

Ike merits honor
I want to voice my delight in finding out the airport name will be changed to proudly honor our Kansas son and 34th president of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower. I’ve been fascinated with every trip I’ve taken to the Eisenhower Museum in Abilene. The man deserves to be honored in Wichita as well.
I believe those opposed to the airport name change do not fully understand the contribution this man made to his country and the important role he played in shaping our great nation. The Eisenhower presidency is held in high esteem and respected by political scholars around the world, which is why he is rated among the top 10 presidents of the United States.
I was quite elated to hear that members of the Eisenhower family plan to attend the dedication ceremony.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say “kudos” to the group of dedicated individuals who brought this idea to the public’s attention. They put in untold hours of personal time toiling over the task of making sure all requirements were met and all proper procedures were followed. Thanks for a job well-done.
It seems to me that the good guys are not paying attention.
Mayor Carl Brewer and entourage went off to China, then proposed selling Wichita’s public assets to Chinese investors. Is China our friend?
Now the Wichita City Council voted to change the airport name despite a lot of opposition (“Mid-Continent renamed in honor of Eisenhower,” March 5 Eagle) – our tax money working for a few.
Wichita is a great place to live, but….
We need to pay attention and have our voices heard.
