Social media buzzed and crowds formed, as artists shared their work and performers took their bows all over Wichita. While underway, the ICT Art Day of Giving on Feb. 28 seemed like something special as well as new. But seeing the fundraising total announced Wednesday – $548,372 – was believing in Wichita as a town that supports as well as loves the arts.
It was impressive enough that $380 a minute was donated over one day to help the arts and attractions. The cash and pledges, 764 of which were made online, will serve the bottom lines and missions of 38 local nonprofit organizations. But the ArtDOG event also stands out for the festive collaboration it inspired across the arts community. May it lead to more.
Congratulations to the Wichita Community Foundation and its partners, the Arts Council and the Knight Foundation. And thanks to the donors, new and loyal regulars alike, who gave via the website, wrote checks and otherwise invested in the cultural life of our great community.
For the editorial board, Rhonda Holman
