Eagle editorial: Year filled with blessings

States used to celebrate Thanksgiving on different days. At the urging of Sarah Josepha Hale, a magazine editor, President Lincoln decided 150 years ago to set apart the last Thursday of November as a national “day of Thanksgiving and Praise.” Even in the midst of the Civil War, Lincoln realized that our nation had much to be thankful for, and he recognized the source of those blessings.
