Last weekend's BlackTop Nationals enhanced Wichita's street cred as a hot town for hot cars, drawing national attention and perhaps 150,000 attendees. In the process, it raised hopes that the four-day event will be back next year and beyond, becoming an asset to Wichita's economy and quality of life for the long term.
The four days of displays, demonstrations and other events, held in Park City as well as downtown Wichita, created some traffic hassles. But as the size of the crowd demonstrated, south-central Kansans know and appreciate collectible cars. Organizers and major sponsor Ford can take pride in the inaugural event. Here's hoping that the BlackTop Nationals show settles in to become a new local tradition.
