Summer 2009

According the National Climatic Data Center, this summer was the 34th coolest summer since 1895, when we started keeping records. The reason for the unseasonably cool weather is a persistent area of low pressure over the Hudson Bay and Great Lakes. This setup drags cool, Canadian air south and these systems move slowly. Several states in the north had record cool temperatures this summer, including Michigan, Wisconsin and South Dakota. Even with the cooler-than-average summer, we cannot draw conclusions about what winter will be like.
