Low pressure

Low pressure systems in the upper atmosphere can sometimes separate from the jet stream winds, resulting in an unchanging weather pattern and a very difficult forecast period. When low pressure separates from the jet stream, it is referred to as a cutoff low pressure. They wobble around and can result in some heavy, flooding rainfall. Forecasting the movement of a cutoff low is difficult and usually results in a changing forecast from day to day.
