It’ll be hot and windy in the Wichita area on Thursday, with highs in the upper 90s and south winds gusting at more than 30 mph.

But change is coming, forecasters say, with a cool front arriving just in time for the start of the Kansas State Fair. Friday brings a good chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs nudging into the 80s and winds shifting to the north-northwest.

Lows Friday night will dip into the 50s, and forecasters say highs over the weekend will only be in the 70s under partly cloudy skies.

The notably cooler temperatures will persist well into next week, forecasters say.
