After a potentially stormy early morning, skies will gradually clear in the Wichita area as Wednesday unfolds, forecasters say.

Highs are likely to reach the mid-90s, with south winds gusting at more than 30 mph by afternoon. Steady south breezes will strengthen as the day goes on, reaching the 20s by midafternoon.

Overnight lows will drop only to the mid-70s under mostly clear skies, forecasters say, with south winds remaining robust. Steady breezes will be in the upper teens, with gusts topping 25 mph.

Thursday will also be hot and windy, with highs in the mid-90s and south winds gusting to nearly 30 mph.

But a cool front will bring notably cooler temperatures on Friday and through the weekend, forecasters say.
