Residents of western Kansas would be wise to monitor the weather closely today.

The Storm Prediction Center is projecting a 5% chance of tornadoes for much of the western third of the state, including Dodge City, Garden City and Colby.

“Very large hail, damaging wind gusts and several tornadoes may accompany the initial supercells as they move east-northeastward over the High Plains,” an SPC statement reads.
