Wichita weather: A slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms

Wichita could see more rain today, forecasters say, but it’s only a modest chance.

Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s under mostly clear skies, with showers and thunderstorms possible after noon. But the rain will be widely scattered, so there’s a good chance much of the metropolitan area won’t receive precipitation. Southerly winds will be in the teens, with gusts approaching the mid-20s.

A slight chance of showers will linger overnight, forecasters say, when lows will settle in the upper 60s. Friday may see a shower in the Wichita area in the morning before highs approach 90 under mostly cloudy skies. Southerly winds will be stronger than Thursday, with breezes steady in the upper teens and low 20s and gusts topping 30 miles an hour.

Highs over the weekend will be near 90, forecasters say, with a slight chance of showers on Saturday and sunshine on Sunday.
