Here’s a quick look at some of Wichita’s annual happenings.


Outdoor Living and Landscape Show: Garden-themed exhibits and vendors, March 2-4, Century II Expo Hall


“Gridiron 2012”: Satirical stage show starring members of local media spoofing the news. April 12-14, Orpheum Theatre, 316-268-6327

Midwest Winefest: Old Town walkabout, dinners and grand tasting. April 19-21, Century II Exhibition Hall.

Great Plains Spring Renaissance Festival: Celebration of all things medieval as well as giant turkey legs. April 21-22, Sedgwick County Park.


River City Ribfest: Outdoor barbecue festival, May 17-19, Lot D parking lot east of Intrust Bank Arena.

Opera on the Lake: Wichita Grand Opera outside at Bradley Fair, May 19


Wichita River Festival: June 1-9, downtown Wichita.

Symphony in the Flint Hills: June 9. Tickets to this popular event, which will take place near Florence, usually sell out in a matter of hours. Tickets go on sale March 10.

Music Theatre of Wichita: Season starts with "Fiddler on the Roof," June 13-17, in Century II’s Concert Hall. Other shows: “9 to 5,” June 27-July 1; “Honk!,” July 11-15l “Legally Blonde,” Aug. 8-12; “Singin’ in the Rain,” July 25-29.

Anime Festival: Hyatt Regency, June 29-July 1,

Celebrate America at Old Cowtown Museum: Old-fashioned Independence Day celebration, June 30.


Drums Across Kansas: July 17, venue to be announced

American Indian Festival: Two-day powwow and art market, July 1-15, Century II.


“The Lion King”: Theater League’s production of the Broadway show runs Sept. 4-30, Century II Concert Hall

Kansas State Fair: Sept. 7-16, Hutchinson.

Zoobilee: Fundraiser with lots of food, drink and music, Sept. 8, Sedgwick County Zoo.

Autumn & Art: Sept. 14-16, Bradley Fair.

Midwest Beerfest : Beer-tasting event, Sept. 22, Century II Expo Hall,

Wagonmasters Chili Cookoff: Competitive cooking and eating event. Sept. 24, downtown Wichita.

Wichita Flight Festival: McConnell Air Force Base, Sept. 28-29

Great Plains Fall Renaissance Festival: Sept. 29-30, Sedgwick County Park.


Woofstock: Celebration of dogs, Oct. 6, Sedgwick County Park.

Holiday Galleria : Holiday shopping event, Oct. 12-14, Century II Expo Hall

ArtAID: art auction and fashion show fundraiser for Positive Directions. Tentative date is Oct. 13, Cotillion.

Tallgrass Film Festival: Independent film screenings and parties, Oct. 18-21, various sites in Wichita.

Night of the Living Zoo : Kids trick-or-treating event at Sedgwick County Zoo, Oct. 26-28,

Trick-or-Treat Street : Trick-or-treat event for kids, Oct. 26-28 at Wichita Children’s Theatre and Dance Center, 201 Lulu.


Illuminations, glowing garden event at Botanica, opens Nov. 23.

“The Nutcracker”: Presented by Friends University, Dec. 7-9 and 14-16.

“The Nutcracker”: Presented by Ballet Wichita, Dec. 15-16, Century II.
