Josh Shorter, chief operating officer of Integrated Components, has announced he will run against incumbent Jeff Blubaugh in the District 4 City Council race.
“We need a fresh voice at City Hall with fresh ideas,” said Shorter, 26, who is a graduate of Wichita State University and Sunrise Christian Academy.
Shorter serves on the District Advisory Board for District 4 and was a member of the inaugural class of the Small Business Association’s Emerging Leaders Initiative.
His top issues include spending and re-prioritizing projects like transit and infrastructure.
He’s also concerned about job growth in Wichita.
“We’ve tried the same practices and policies for quite a while now, and they don’t seem to have the impact we were hoping for,” he said.
Shorter said it concerns him that city officials still haven’t laid out alternatives to fund issues that were presented as part of the 1-cent-per-dollar sales tax plan in November. The sales tax was rejected by voters.
Integrated Components, which is also in southwest Wichita’s District 4, makes aircraft components and specializes in gearwork.
Shorter and his wife, Karyn, have a 9-month-old daughter and are expecting their second child in May.
