President Barack Obama said Thursday that his daughters, Malia, 15, and Sasha, 13, would probably describe him as a “good, fun dad who teeters on the edge of being embarrassing sometimes.”
Just before celebrating another Father’s Day, Obama sat down with another president’s daughter -- Jenna Bush Hager on NBC’s Today show -- to talk about raising children in the White House.
“The one thing the girls know about me is I love 'em to death,” Obama said.
Obama, who was raised by his mom and grandparents, vowed to spend time with his own children, trying to make time for parent/teacher conferences, ballet recitals and soccer games.
“We really don't have to check on their homework or nag them too much about stuff,” Obama said. “They handle their business, so we're really proud of them.”
But, he said, Obama said his daughters lead pretty normal lives with sleepovers and visits to the mall, movies and sporting events.
“They've got their heads on straight,” he said. “They're strong, confident young ladies.”
