Palin swings through the South

Sarah Palin is having a big week in the Deep South.

Sarah Palin is having a big week in the Deep South.

Later Friday, she’ll headline a rally in Mississippi for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel. McDaniel is challenging veteran Sen. Thad Cochran in Tuesday’s primary, and has strong support from conservative groups as well as some of their stars.

2012 Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is backing McDaniel, and Palin, the 2008 vice president nominee, has a radio ad touting the candidate.

Thursday, Palin stopped in the Republican Leadership Conference, a gathering of party conservatives meeting in nearby New Orleans.

She laced into President Barack Obama. “At this rate that we’re going, this Commander-in-Chief, our soldiers are going to have to exchange their fatigues for mom jeans,” she told the crowd.

“Unfortunately, the Obama doctrine dismisses the price our veterans have paid for our freedom,” she charged. “Perhaps what our president doesn’t understand today is freedom isn’t free. If you love freedom, you thank a vet.”
