Richard Nixon's back.
The Tea Party Express Friday linked the former president, the only one ever to resign the office, with Sen. Thad Cochran. Cochran is facing State Sen. Chris McDaniel, who's backed by the Express, in Mississippi's June 3 Republican Senate primary.
"Both were in office in Washington D.C. in the early 1970's," the Express says in a statement. "While our 37th president has long since resigned from office and passed away, Senator Thad Cochran still remains entrenched in Washington D.C. Isn't it time for a change?"
The press release then shows a picture of Cochran and Nixon side by side.
Never miss a local story.
Cochran was first elected to the House in 1972, and Nixon, enveloped by the Watergate scandal, resigned in August, 1974.
As a House member, Cochran helped write ethics laws that applied to his colleagues, and in 1978, won his first U.S. Senate term.
