Sen. Pat Roberts has named Dave Murfin, president of Murfin Drilling Co. in Wichita and chairman and CEO of Murfin Inc., as co-chair of his statewide 2014 re-election campaign.

Candy Merrill, a real estate agent and principal with the Overland Park commercial development firm Merrill Cos., is the other co-chair.

Roberts said in a statement that as business leaders, Murfin and Merrill understand what it takes to add jobs to the economy, and as parents share his concern about dealing with the debt, deficits and entitlements to not bankrupt the future of children.

Murfin said in a written statement that Roberts “is a steadfast conservative voice, fighting to cut spending and taxes at time when liberals in Washington want to talk about how to tax and spend more.

“Whether he’s talking with farmers and ranchers, energy producers, community bankers or Kansas families, Pat understands our concerns and shares a positive vision for the future.”
