TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Honduras' interim president announced Thursday he will step down temporarily to allow voters to concentrate on the upcoming presidential elections.
Roberto Micheletti said he will step aside ahead of the Nov. 29 election until at least Dec. 2, when Congress is scheduled to vote on whether to reinstate ousted President Manuel Zelaya.

' 'We hope that Mexico City will inspire other cities around the world to embrace environmentally sustainable programs,'' said Mayor Marcelo Ebrard, who visited Harvard University this week to accept the Roy Family Award for Environmental Partnerships for the city's 4-year-old Metrobus system.
Russian icebreaker nearly free of ice
MOSCOW — A Russian icebreaker carrying more than 100 tourists, scientists and journalists on an Antarctic cruise was approaching open water Thursday after being halted by unexpectedly thick ice, its owners and a travel agency said.
The icebreaker Captain Khlebnikov had trouble freeing itself from sea ice earlier this week near Snow Hill Island in the Weddell Sea.
