Old Town Farmers Market reopens today

The Old Town Farmers Market opens today for the summer season at First and Mosley. Hours are 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Vision cards and food stamps will be accepted this year.

Because of the River Run (part of the Wichita River Festival), access today will be through the parking lots off Washington Street between Douglas and First streets. One route is to take Central to Washington and turn south.

The midweek version of the market, at Andover's Central Park, also is now open, on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.

The "morals sting" was the second at the north Wichita park in two weeks. Seven men were arrested on suspicion of sex crimes on April 25.

Spokesman Gordon Bassham said the special enforcement efforts are in response to numerous complaints of patrons witnessing lewd behavior at the park, located at 3228 N. Oliver.

The men arrested Thursday were booked on suspicion of a total of eight sex crimes, including lewd and lascivious behavior, sexual battery and soliciting for immoral purposes.

Woman says 3 men raped her Wednesday

A 38-year-old woman told police she was walking along East 13th Street Wednesday night when she was raped by three men.

The attack happened at about 10 p.m. in an alley between Piatt and Minnesota, police said, and the victim reported it Thursday.

Lt. Sam Hanley said police aren't sure why the woman waited a day.

The woman was walking on the north side of the street Wednesday night when she was approached by three black men with their faces covered by do-rags.

One held a 10-inch knife. They forced her into the alley where the man with the knife cut her clothes off and raped her while the other two held her down.

They took her purse and its contents, police said. The victim was taken to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus for treatment.

The first suspect is about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, the woman told police. He was wearing dirty blue jeans, a short-sleeved shirt, and two black do-rags: one over his face and one over his head.

The second had a black do-rag over his face, braided hair that went past his shoulders and hairy arms, she said.

The third had a red bandanna over his face and wore shorts.
