The 73-year-old woman tries to live on her Social Security check of $694 a month. But her mobile home is crumbling.
She’s lived in it for five years, she told The Eagle, and didn’t notice when the rain began seeping in.
When the rain began running down her walls and floors, she put up guttering on one side of the house. It was too late. “My walls and floor on the south side of the house are collapsing,” she wrote in her application to Share the Season. The floors are particle board and are crumbling. The insulation is no longer effective. She used a bucket to dip water from beneath the floor boards in her main bedroom. “My water heater is very close to the floor that is collapsing,” she wrote. “All I need is getting floorboards so my hot water heater won’t fall.” Other programs and groups have been unable to help. “I tried getting help from other agencies to no avail. They all turned me down,” she wrote.
