A 53-year-old woman from Sedgwick County has died of complications associated with the H1N1 virus, health officials said Monday.
The death was one of two confirmed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Also Monday, the Sedgwick County Health Department said it would reopen its H1N1 vaccine clinic on Wednesday, offering the nasal form of the vaccine to certain individuals ages 2 to 49. They include health care workers, children 2 to 4 years old and caregivers of children under 6 months old. The group does not include young children with asthma.
KDHE did not release names or identifying information on the two people whose deaths have been linked to the H1N1 virus but said the woman had an underlying health condition that placed her at increased risk for complications. Local health officials said she was from Sedgwick County.
In addition, a 72-year-old man who had an underlying health condition died of H1N1 complications. He was from northeast Kansas, KDHE said.
The county health department said its H1N1 vaccine clinic will open at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wichita Mall, 4031 E. Harry.
The clinic will continue from 2 to 7 p.m. daily through Saturday, or until the vaccine supply is depleted.
