Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to

The record: Annual reports on domestic violence, rape and stalking in Kansas.

Why you’d want them: To learn more about such crimes statewide.

Where you get them: The reports are kept by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Go to Click on the “Statistics” menu on the left-hand side of the page and then on the “Domestic Violence and Rape” link.

How much does it cost: The information is free.
