After two weeks of searching for Dalonte Hill’s replacement, Kansas State basketball coach Frank Martin has decided to promote from within to fill the vacancy on his coaching staff.
Lamont Evans, the Wildcats’ current graduate student manager, will move into a full-time position. According to a source within the K-State athletic department, the staff change will be made official with an announcement early next week.
Evans has not immediately returned calls and text messages placed to his cell phone. Gopowercat.com first reported Evans’ promotion.
Evans has worked under Martin for three seasons. His primary duties have been to assist in the breakdown of game film and to help gather scouting information.
When reached last weekend by phone in south Florida, where he was spending time with his family before returning to K-State for the start of summer school sessions, Evans said he had informally spoken with Martin about the opening.
“I would love it,” he said. “That’s my goal. I have always wanted to be a coach.” (more…)
