Wichita State can end the pre-Christmas schedule 9-2 and riding a four-game win streak if it handles Tulsa tonight at Intrust Bank Arena. I’ve held off forming too strong an opinion of the Shockers until after tonight. With this game in hand, we will have a look at WSU against comparable opponents at home (or close to home), on the road and on neutral courts. They will have played five opponents of similar resources (and two more that offered representative talent in Nicholls State and Chaminade). That should give us a good sampling to evaluate.
Ideally, WSU closes out this 11-game run with a strong effort from start to finish. That would alleviate some of the concerns from Saturday’s second-half troubles against LSU. The Shockers need to build a lead and finish it off against an opponent such as Tulsa. It’s hard to play 40 minutes of good basketball. WSU needs to get over 30 against Tulsa. That’s what it will take going forward.
