Though it is still early, no potential GOP presidential candidate garners more than 20 percent support among Republicans, according to a new Gallup poll. That suggests that the 2012 campaign could be wide open. Mitt Romney (in photo) leads with 19 percent support, followed by Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, each with 16 percent, and then Newt Gingrich with 13 percent. No other potential GOP candidate had more than 6 percent support. Whether Palin can break out of that pack may depend on Huckabee, who appeals to the same base of supporters. "Huckabee and Palin inhabit largely the same space — i.e. they each would perform well without the other, but they might undercut each other if they are in the same race," wrote Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post.
