CORDARELLE PATTERSONSo I was watching the highlights from the two Region VI semifinal games last night and there was one thing that stood out to me.
That is, Cordarelle Patterson is The Truth.
I spoke to both CP and Hutchinson coach Rion Rhoades on Monday night about the freshman wide receiver’s breakout season – he’s second in the Jayhawk in all-purpose yards with 1,240 to go with his 11 touchdowns. Rhoades said he knew Patterson would be a big-time player after spring practices, but has been amazed at what CP has done this year, calling his production “remarkable.”PATTERSON IN HIGH SCHOOLCP, 6-foot-4 and 197 pounds, told me the last time he had his vertical measured it was 39 inches, and I got the Rock Hill, S.C., native to laugh a little bit when I told him that if I had a 39-inch vertical leap I would spend a lot of time alone, in a gym, just dunking. That’s all I would. Dunk, dunk and dunk some more. He thought that was pretty funny. He also said he misses Rock Hill and that he wasn’t going to think about where he was going to school next anytime in the future.
Is he the best wide receiver in the Jayhawk? Not this year – that’s Butler’s Marcus Kennard – but I think CP’s upside is tremendous. Like play for a Top 25 school and then start cashing checks tremendous. Straight up, he’s a mini-Moss. Even wears 84.
Putting story together for Tuesday’s Eagle and www.kansas.com. I’m out.
