Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, warned the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association Monday to beware of Democrats claiming to be conservative, suggesting that retiring Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Lenexa, had tried to hide his liberal voting record by participating in Blue Dog Democrat caucuses. "There are no conservative Democrats," Tiahrt declared. Then Tiahrt spotted state Treasurer Dennis McKinney (in photo), a former state lawmaker from Greensburg who is the very model of a conservative, pro-life Democrat. "I see Dennis McKinney back there. He's a good man," Tiahrt said. After the meeting, McKinney told the Topeka Capital-Journal, "You never have 100 percent agreement within any party."
