It seems obvious I misread the Scott Schebler situation last week. Based on conversations throughout the summer with WSU coaches and Schebler’s thoughts when he committed, I figured Schebler remained likely to turn down the Dodgers and come to WSU. Last week, he said his plan remained to become a Shocker, while leaving the door open if the Dodgers made a last-minute push.
Apparently, that door is wide open. Shocker coaches haven’t spoken to Schebler in several days. While most of the players are in town preparing for the start of school, Schebler has yet to arrive. That may or may not mean anything. However, coaches are growing more pessimistic about Schebler playing for WSU as the day continues.
The Dodgers drafted Schebler, an outfielder from Des Moines Area Community College, in the 26th round in June. He left his Northwoods League team earlier this month to ponder an offer from Los Angeles.
Stay tuned. Schebler may be driving south from Iowa as we speak. Or he may be modeling Dodger blue and preparing for the minor leagues. The deadline to sign is 11 tonight.
