Good for 4th Congressional District candidate Mike Pompeo for apologizing unequivocally for his campaign's initial promotion of an extremely offensive blog post as "a good read." The blog post went way over the line in making bigoted statements about the ethnicity and faith of Democratic candidate Raj Goyle, which is why The Eagle declined to publish it as a letter to the editor. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, Pompeo deserves to be taken at his word that it was a mistake. But the episode demonstrates the tricky business of using social networking to support a campaign. Regrettably, it also foreshadows the kind of low tactics some Goyle critics may be willing to use between now and Nov. 2.
