One more dose of the blast furnace for Wichita and much of Kansas, and then a welcome cool-down arrives for the weekend.
Forecasters say the high in Wichita should reach 105 or more today – the sixth straight day of triple-digit temperatures – before a cold front arrives in the metropolitan area. The front will bring a chance of showers for the next several days.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. today, as the heat index is projected to reach 109 today.
The storms tonight and tomorrow figure to be isolated, meteorologists say, but some could be strong. Highs on Saturday are expected to be in the upper 90s and in the upper 80s on Sunday.
