Kapaun got everything it wanted out of last night’s 24-7 win over Northwest. The win, however, came with a price for Kapaun. Starting tackle Spencer Rotolo-Utz was injured on the first play of the game in throwing a key block to spring Krehbiel on a screen pass for 16 yards. After the game Rotolo-Ultz, supported by crutches was emotional in as he gave his team the bad news.
“It looks like I tore my ACL,” he said looking at the disappointment in his teammates faces.
“That's my left tackle – my blind side,” Lewis said. “So it was really hard. He might have a torn ACL so we definitely will need some guys to step up, but it was tough to watch.”
During the game Kapaun dominated the ball and the clock. Kapaun running back Tyler Krehbiel kept the Northwest defense honest with 25 carries and Keaton Lewis was able to capitalize off of the play action pass.
Never miss a local story.
Kapaun also faced problems last year with finishing strong in important games. That wasn’t the case Thursday. The Crusaders outscored the Grizzlies 14-0 in the second half, which was a big deal for senior defensive end and tight end Michael Reynolds.
“Coming into the game last year we had problems with people finishing,” Reynolds said. “So we just told people we have to keep on pushing. We have to finish this game. Go all four quarters until the end, and get this victory. Its game No. 1 – most important to set off the season.”
