The workweek will close with another sizzler for the Wichita area, with mostly sunny skies, temperatures flirting with the century mark and high humidity making conditions outside quite sultry.
But forecasters say cooler temperatures and a decent chance of showers arrive for the weekend – providing a welcome respite from the hottest stretch of the summer for the Wichita area.
Highs today should approach 100, with heat index values topping 105. Southerly winds will be steady in the teens early, intensifying to the mid-20s later today. Gusts should top 30 mph.
Lows will again settle in the upper 70s, and Saturday should be cooler. Scattered rain is possible in the Wichita area in the afternoon and evening, forecasters say. Highs will dip to the mid-90s, wth west-southwest winds in the teens – though they are expected to diminish later today.
Chances for showers persist into Sunday, when highs will top out in the low 90s.
