An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight for Wichita and the surrounding area.
There is good news on the horizon, however: cooler temperatures are anticipated to arrive Friday and last for several days, forecasters say.
Today’s forecast calls for highs in the upper 90s and heat index readings of between 105 and 110 degrees. Southerly breezes will be steady in the teens and low 20s, with gusts of more than 30 miles an hour.
Highs Friday will slip to the mid-90s and drop to the low 90s over the weekend, when a chance of showers arrives.
