Scattered thunderstorms – some of them quite strong – are possible in the Wichita area today, forecasters say.
The storms are expected to form along a nearly stalled frontal boundary late this afternoon and evening. Microbursts are possible, meaning the storms could pack heavy rain and strong winds.
Highs today should only reach the low to mid-90s, but the heat index could still climb to perhaps 105 because of substantial humidity. Northerly winds will remain in the single digits, so breezes won’t offer much relief.
After an overnight low in the mid-70s, Friday should be partly cloudy, with highs in the mid-90s. Winds will be light and variable.
